What we don't: No true exposure compensation Unsophisticated auto exposure Flash always fires No macro mode. The Mini 9 is Fujifilm's most entry-level camera using the Instax Mini format and is also among the most affordable instant models available. It's simple to operate and light on features. Because of its entry-level status, it's bit chunkier and heftier than some of its other Instax Mini siblings, but not to the point of being burdensome. The body is built entirely of plastic, but seems well-constructed.
Held vertically, the camera's rounded grip is fairly comfortable and the front-facing shutter button is easy to access. The camera is powered by two AA batteries which should be enough juice for up to shots 10 packs. The close-up lens is much easier to use in tandem with the front-facing selfie mirror. The camera offers four shooting modes and indicates which it thinks is best by illuminating an orange LED next to the mode - It's up to the user to dial in the appropriate mode. When digital cameras first burst onto the scene back when I was a teenager, I, like many others, was convinced it was the end of an era for film.
Never would I have predicted that instant film cameras like my old Polaroid would one day enjoy such a resurgence in popularity. Today, one of the best-selling models on the market is the Instax Mini 9 — the successor to the extremely popular Mini 8 — and it happens to be, not a super advanced digital camera with the latest specifications, but an extremely basic instant film camera.
I hope you find it useful! Ethics statement: We bought the Mini 9 for our personal use. We were not asked to write anything about the camera, nor were we provided with any sort of compensation.

Thank you! Though it is technically the successor to the enormously popular Instax Mini 8, the truth is that there are only a handful of differences between them. These include colour selection and the inclusion of a close-up lens in the package.
It joins a number of other cameras in the Instax range including the Mini 90, Mini 70, Mini 25, Wide and the Square Sq10, all of which have proven extremely popular. With its chunky build, large buttons and bright selection of colours, the Instax Mini 9 almost looks more like a toy than an instant film camera.

The camera features a 60mm moderate wide-angle lens, making it a good option for a variety of genres including portraits, street, travel and more. Popping it out of the body by pressing the button beside the lens turns the camera on, and pushing it back into the body turns it off again.
Note for the techies: The 60mm lens is the equivalent of a 34mm lens on a full-frame camera. Surrounding the lens unit is a brightness adjustment dial with four main settings: Very Sunny, Sunny, Cloudy, and Indoors. Hi-Key is an additional setting on the dial that the camera will never suggest on its own. It both brightens and softens the image to give it an ethereal look, and should only be used in places with very little ambient light, just like Indoors.
Indoors vs Hi Key Click to see a larger version. It works really well, even when two people pose together.
Placed near the top of the camera is the optical viewfinder, and below it is a recessed shutter button which is both large and within easy reach of your pointer finger. Also found on the camera are a built-in flash that fires no matter which brightness setting you choose, and a light meter two holes on the front that reads the intensity of the ambient light.
It is important to avoid covering either the flash or the light meter as they work together to deliver the correct exposure. More on this later! The very top of the camera is home to the film ejection slot. This is where the film comes out after you take a picture. The area where your thumb rests is textured with a series of raised bumps which give you a better hold on the camera.Being honest, the enhancements to the Instax Mini 9 are probably not enough to justify upgrading from the Instax Mini 8.

Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 Review – Best Camera For Kids (2020)
I hope you have found this Instax Mini 9 review helpful and would love to hear your thoughts so please comment below.Launched in March and available in five pastel colours, the Instax Mini 9 produces small, business card sized prints using a fully-analogue process. The prints emerge from the camera almost immediately with the image gradually appearing after around 30 seconds and becoming fully-developed about a minute later.
Like earlier Instax Mini cameras, the Mini 9 is extremely simple. All you do is frame the subject using the small optical viewfinder, then turn the ring around the lens to match the conditions indicated by a small light. This controls the aperture on the lens and adjusts the exposure to the conditions.
Then just push the button and watch the print emerge out the top. New to the Mini 9 are a tiny but surprisingly effective selfie mirror by the lens and the inclusion of a clip-on lens accessory for close-ups. And what could be better for sharing than actually handing over an original print?
No wonder Instax cameras have become a hit at weddings, holidays and other events. Instax Mini produces instant prints that are the size of a business card, with the actual picture measuring 2.

The fixed lens camera has few controls beyond the five exposure modes, which adjust the aperture to indoor, cloudy, sunny and bright situations. The fifth, high-key, setting provides an appealing over-exposed affect and the inbuilt flash fires every time. Improvements over the Mini 8 include a front-mounted mirror for composing selfies and a macro lens attachment for close-ups. The headline feature here though is the integrated printer that pushes out a credit card-sized colour photo every time.
Just pop in two AA batteries and a pack of ten Instax papers, and away you go. Available from: argos. There's still room in the digital age for an analogue instant camera if, like this one, it can offer reasonable pictures at a fair price and print them out right away.
We found the Mini 9 to be fun and easy to use, with just five exposure modes to think about.
The flash is always on, so the only other consideration is whether to use the macro lens attachment or not. This is an essential upgrade from the Mini 8 and improves its versatility. It delivered some rather good analogue pictures in our tests. Of course, you don't get the detail of a digital shot, but you can get pleasing results with the five modes and flash making all photo situations possible.
The Instax paper refills are rather expensive and take quite a few frustrating seconds to print out, but we had no problems with the built-in printer. All product information provided by the manufacturer is correct at time of publication.

Fujifilm have given a minor update to their super successful Instax Mini 8 with this new release. The Mini 9 comes in 5 new colors, and adds a couple of key features missing from its younger sibling, the hugely popular Instax Mini 8.
The most noticeable physical difference about the Mini 9 are the five bright new colors it comes in. This is great for the consumer, as the idea of these cameras is to explore your creativity and style. I personally love the look of the new blue colors, I just wish they had kept a black or darker color in the range for a more incognito street shooting look.
The Mini 9 is almost identical to its predecessor when comparing features and specs. Focussing more on a new range of colors in addition to a couple of highly requested features. First seen on the Instax Mini 90 and on other cameras since, the built-in mirror removes the necessity to buy an attachment for your lens like we recommend on the Mini 8. The selfie mirrors on the Instax cameras are great, giving just enough detail to properly compose that all-important shot with you and your friends.
This is a no-brainer decision from Fujifilm to include this on the updated model. When attached it gives a better focal length to take selfies with. It also enables you to take fantastic looking macro shots with as much close-up detail as these cameras can manage.
This film can be found in lots of major retailers, but we suggest buying in bulk to make some big saving on your cost-per-shot. We get asked this question a lot. This Instax Mini 9 uses credit card size film, not ink and paper. Print resolution may not be as sharp as ink — but we think that adds to the nostalgic charm of these cameras. Both ink and paper, and Instax film will fade over time. Keep them out of direct sunlight and in dry room-temperature conditions for the longest lifespan.
We recommend stocking up on Instax photo albums for the best storage solution. However, it seems like Fuji has missed an opportunity to make other small enhancements that would have made this camera really standout and deserving of a whole new model.
I would have like to see an improved lens, a slightly smaller body or just something different enough to make it a proper update. Yes, unless you are upgrading from a Mini 8. The Instax Mini 9 is the perfect instant film camera for beginners and children. Users who simply want to shoot and not worry about settings will love this camera. Like the Mini 8, it mixes simplicity with a set of features to get you by in all shooting conditions.
